International strategies to address uneven development

The main strategies are:

  • Aid – a form of help given from one country to another or one person to another, or from a charity
  • Debt relief – some, or all, of a country’s debt is reduced or cancelled
  • Tourism – Holidaymakers from richer countries bring income into the country
  • Fairtrade – farmers can sell produce for a fair and guaranteed price
  • Microfinance – a small amount of money is lent to local people to set up their own small business
  • Intermediate technology – Low-tech solutions which improve a local person’s quality of life
  • Foreign direct investment – a large TNC builds a new factory, employing many local people
