What is Savanna?
Savanna is a type of ecosystem found in tropical regions, characterised by vast grasslands with scattered trees and shrubs. Unlike dense forests, trees in the savanna are spread out, allowing plenty of sunlight to reach the ground, which supports a wide range of grasses and herbivores.
Savannas have a distinct seasonal climate. They experience two main seasons each year:
A long dry season, which can be cool or hot depending on the region.
A short wet season, which brings most of the annual rainfall in just a few months.
This pattern of wet and dry seasons affects the vegetation and wildlife found in the savanna. Plants and animals are specially adapted to cope with long periods of drought followed by intense rainfall.
