You are here: AQA GCSE Geography PLCs > Coasts > C14 Example Answer

For a coastal management scheme in the UK you have studied, outline two reasons why it was required.

The command word in the question is outline. This involves setting out the main characteristics – to give a brief account or summary.

Example

Mappleton is served by the B1242, the main road connecting settlements along the Holderness Coast. Intense erosion led to the coastline being only 50m from the main road. It was cheaper to protect Mappleton than construct a new road.

The village contains around 50 properties and is home to 342 people. Without coastal defences, these properties would be lost to coastal erosion which was occurring at around 2m/year.
